I’ll be honest, I’ve not been the best at taking care of myself this last while but having one sick little lady and fighting a flu myself has forced me to! If there is one thing I have learnt in the last couple of days it’s this;

Just make a few smart choices first thing and your whole day will be loving you!

1. hydrate

Yes! You can still enjoy your morning coffee I promise, but maybe try a glass of water first or even better, try some tumeric* tea with lemon and manuka honey. With our seasons changing and sick people everywhere we need to protect ourselves. Tumeric is literally my super hero and what keeps me going when I’m feeling crap! It’s a natural anti inflammatory so helps fight off any potential bacteria, as it simply can’t thrive without inflammation. It’s a powerful antioxidant and even helps with brain functioning (now this I need). Coupled with the Manuka honey this has been a God send for my achey throat. This one morning ritual alone cleared up my cough in just a few days! (Tip! When choosing your honey, choose one with a high MGO, 30+ is best for medicinal purposes).

2. let’s go outside

Get outside as soon as you can, even if its just for 5 minutes in the garden (drinking your tea of course). Not only is this a lovely way to start the day, the sunlight literally lets your cells know that a new day has arrived and gets everything functioning.  Fresh air is so important to a good immune system. Not only will it help clear the lungs and get everything (I mean everything) moving, it’ll clear your mind and make you a whole lot happier 🙂

3. make time for your journal

Do your morning pages. Grab your journal as soon as you wake up and write down everything that comes to you without really thinking about it. Allow your subconscious to guide you and just write, write and write until you go blank. If you’re a frustrated creative this exercise is especially helpful as it provides a really great outlet to get you’re creative juices flowing. Even if you’re not, it’s an excellent tool to unfold any hidden thoughts or patterns that may be niggling away at your subconscious.

These 3 small steps literally change my entire day. Not just the acts themselves but they set me up for a whole day of smarter choices. Even though I’ve had hardly any sleep, I’ve actually had a lot more energy, I’ve been food smart, I’ve halved my caffeine and said no to sugar, but most importantly I’ve been a much better mum! More patient, more creative and definitely more fun!  You don’t have to do all 3 at once, just pick one and see how your day transforms.  You may even catch the sunrise!
